BOAC - British Overseas Airways Corporation - became Britain's state airlineat the end of 1939 taking over from Imperial Airways and British Airways Limited. BOAC began operations in wartime.BOAC flew across the Atlantic on the 'return ferry run',they flew on the 'ball-bearing run' to Sweden, they flew the 'horseshoe route' between Durban through India to Sydney and in theatres of war in Europe and Africa.
